New Parents
Here is some good information for new parents about what we do and how things go. If you have more questions, please reach out to us!
Uniforms
Our troop follows the basic Scouting Uniform. Details on the uniform can be found here. From September to June our guidelines are to wear your Class A uniform. During the summer months we are relaxed and follow Class B uniforms.
- Class A – this is the full uniform that includes shirt, pants and hat. This should be purchased at the Scout shop in downtown Pittsburgh.
- Class B – this is our standard red Troop t-shirt. We sell these throughout the year.
Meetings
Meetings are held weekly at the New Life Fellowship Church. We meet at 7pm to 8:30pm. It’s best practice to attend all of the meetings, however there is no harm if you miss a meeting or two. Just let us know if you can. We are flexible. The scouts should want to come to the meetings!
Trips
Our goal is to go camping once a month. We normally go tent camping from Friday evening and return on Sunday morning. In the winter we go indoors and do some cabin camping when it’s cold out. We also do some day trips such as Skiing. Every summer we go for a full week of outdoor camping at Summer Camp. Check out our calendar and see where we have been and where we are going!
Advancement
Our troop follows the standard scouting advancement in which we go from Scout rank all the way to Eagle. The scouts are encouraged to advance at their own pace. The leaders are there to facilitate advancment, but at the end of the day, those who progress to the highest level of Eagle have done so based on their desire to excel and move ahead.
