Shoe fundraiser

What is it?

As you know we have to find a new spot to store our troop gear. This is a fundraiser to help fund the large shed we are looking to build at our current location.

We are partnering with Funds2Orgs for a creative, non-traditional fundraiser in which we can raise funds without asking your supporters to open their wallets.

This fundraiser has multiple beneficiaries:

  1. Troop 834 – the more shoes we collect the money funds we raise.
  2. Economic Sustainability – our shoes will go to micro-enterprises, which are small businesses with minimal employees and minimal capital. In a developing country, necessity compels micro entrepreneurs to represent the vast majority of the small business sector. Due to a lack of formal jobs and training available to the poor, micro-enterprises add value to the economy by creating micro business, enhancing income, and lowering the overall cost of business
  3. Environmental – instead of these used shoes going to a landfill, they get re-purposed and used again.
  4. Finally…those folks in lower income areas that do not have the luxury of brand-new shoes

When is it?

We will be collecting shoes in April and May.  A truck will be coming in early June to pick up all collected shoes.

How does it work?

It’s a simple fundraiser that requires only a few steps:

  • Step 1- Promote and Solicit
Ask friends/family and let folks know what your doing. As they clean out their closet, let us take care of their old shoes.
  • Step 2 – Collect and Sort Shoes for the 2 months.
  • Step 3 – Load truck that arrives and collect check.

What should I do: Step 1-Spread the word

To be successful we need everyone to spread the word!

  1. Ask Friends and Family – tell your family and friends that are doing spring clean up to give us their shoes they don’t want.  If you use Social Media, please post this!
  2. Drive-By Drop-off events – we are planning on at least one day where we are at a location and folks can drive up and we unload their shoes.  Stay tuned as we get that on the calendar.

What should I do: Step 2-Drop off flyers to your neighbors

In the past, we would all know our neighbors well! In this day and age not as much. Well this gives you a great chance to expand your network and get a little friendlier with all of your neighbors.

All you need to do is walk up and down your street and drop off these flyers that explain what we are doing. And put a time/date on the flyer that you will be stopping by a week later to pick up any shoes they may have.

This is simple and safe and a great way to not only meet some neighbors but help the fundraiser.

What should I do: Step 3-Create a drop off location

If you have contacts at place such as dance studios, gyms, restaurants, schools, clubs, organizations, or work ask if they would mind posting a flyer and box for a few weeks.  And if they can circulate a request to the folks that frequent their location.

See below for flyers to download and tape to a collection box. We have quite a few boxes setup already at locations. Take a look at this flyer to see where we are at already. Tell us your location so we can add to it. Plus we want to promote that organization as it’s free publicity and good for their own Search Engine Optimization if we publish them!
