Advancement
The Boy Scout advancement process is designed to help Scouts grow through learning new skills, demonstrating leadership, and serving their communities. Advancement is achieved through a combination of rank requirements, merit badges, and service projects, all of which build on each other as a Scout progresses.
- Ranks: Scouts advance through a series of ranks—each with specific skills, leadership tasks, and participation requirements that must be completed in order.
- Merit Badges: Scouts earn merit badges by exploring skills and subjects ranging from first aid to citizenship to outdoor skills, with some required for higher ranks.
- Service Projects: Community service is an essential part of advancement, helping Scouts learn responsibility and make a positive impact; larger service projects are required for higher ranks like Eagle.
