Summer Camp
What is it?
In July, we attend a full week of summer camp from Sunday to Saturday at a Boy Scout–specific camp. We typically go to Heritage Scout Reservation at least once every two years, and on the alternate years we try to experience a different camp for variety and new program options. First‑year Scouts are encouraged to attend a specialized weeklong “first‑year camper” program designed to teach essential Scout skills and help them get a strong start. After completing that milestone, Scouts spend their days attending merit badge classes, usually earning between four and eight merit badges over the course of the week. Meals are provided in a group dining setting, and evenings feature campfires, skits, songs, and other fun activities. Housing is in Scout camp tents, which are a bit different from our own—they are typically set up on wooden platforms for stability and comfort.

Summer T-Shirt colors:
Each year, our troop picks a unique T‑shirt color to wear each day so we can easily spot one another among the many other troops at camp. With a few hundred Scouts typically attending, wearing the same color each day helps us stay visible and together. Here are the shirt colors per day:
- Sunday – Class A
- Monday – Red
- Tuesday – Blue
- Wednesday – Black (gray)
- Thursday – Green
- Friday – White
- Note: you MUST wear your class A to dinner each day.
