Congratulations to Troop 834’s newest Eagle Scout: David Hand!
Boy Scout Troop 834 congratulates David Hand, of Bridgeville, on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout on Feb 7, 2023
David (CVSD 2023) is the son of Tom and Liz Hand and the brother of Lucy (CVSD 2018) and Niles (CVSD 2016 and a fellow Eagle Scout). He is a member of Boy Scout Troop 834, now chartered at New Life Church in Bridgeville.
To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a Scout must earn at least 21 merit badges and demonstrate leadership and community service by organizing and carrying out an Eagle project. For his project, David refurbished and updated meeting spaces at Corpus Christi Parish’s Assumption Hall. This much needed update allowed the Parish to have two new handicapped accessible meeting spaces.
As a senior at Chartiers Valley, David is a 4 year member of the Showband, concert band, jazz band and a member of the National Honor Society. This year, David serves as drumline captain and band treasurer. After graduation, David plans to attend a 4 year university majoring in engineering.
Our Laurel Highlands Council offers merit badge classes at Camp Guyasuta for scouts to attend short sessions and get a merit badge. Take a look below at classes offered locally at Camp Guyasuta.

A community service activity is available if any scouts can help out. This is a great opportunity to help a local organization, connect with kids, get service hours and have a lot of fun doing it!
What: South Park Children’s Theater is putting on 2 more plays for this year. These are shows geared toward children and will be on their outdoor theater stage. For these performances since it’s a bit chilly out these days they have a few outdoor fire pits going in the parking lot about an hour before the play starts and they offer Smore’s kits free to the kids and parents.
They have asked our scout troop if we could assist with making the fires and keeping watch over the fires for that hour preceding the play. The theater will supply everything needed, they just need someone experienced in fires!
In addition to helping out, you can stay and watch the performance for free, what a deal!

Please reply via email with dates/times you would like to assist so we can schedule with the theater as they would like to ensure all the spots are filled with one person to help. Also, the theater will have someone there that can assist and will be responsible. They really just need a hand as they are a volunteer based organization and have very limited resources.

Do a good turn daily and Support your community! These are 2 of the hallmarks of Scouting values instilled through Boy Scouting. As a good example of this it’s nice to see PJ and Dom showcase these traits as they took the lead at their school recently when the school had a 9/11 remembrance ceremony. The 2 scouts were asked to assist a local veteran in unfolding and raising the American Flag in front of the whole school.
Our hats off to PJ and Dom for a great job representing the true qualities scouting!
Troop 834 conducted an Eagle Scout Court of Honor on June 6, 2021 for Brendan Nangle. Brendan became the troop’s 149th Eagle Scout after completing all requirements for Eagle scout by his December birthday. Brendan began his scouting career in 2009 and completed his Arrow of Light in 2014 when he crossed over from Pack 262 into Troop 834. To complete requirements for his Eagle Scout, his service project was to build new benches for the South Park Children’s theater where has performed in the past.
