Events & Outings
The goal of Troop 834 is to get out and camp and explore the outdoors. As such we generally go camping 1x per month, except in December. And every July we go for a week long summer camp. If you want to see all the places, we camp, click here to see a great list of past camping sites and activities.
Patrol Meetings
In scouting, it’s known that the Patrol Method is the ONLY method. To help foster the patrol method, we have dedicated the first meeting of the month as a Patrol Meeting only. At this time, the patrol is expected to meet on their own. The patrol is encouraged to use this meeting for whatever they think is necessary for that month and for whatever they would like to do.
Some ideas for patrol meeting include:
- Advancement session to do activities that scouts need to move ahead
- Patrol hike
- Fire building/Scout skill competition or learning session
- Conservation project – such as doing a good turn at Kane Woods or South Park
- Service project such as helping at a non-profit or help with maintenance at South Park Scout cabin
- Use the session to plan something fun at an upcoming meeting or camping trip
- Use the session to practice come up with a skit for summer
- Game night – indoor or outdoor games, frisbee golf at South Park
- Bike on local trail
- Fun activity such as miniature golf, bowling,
Depending on what you decide, it’s best to use the following planning guide at the end of each patrol meeting. Start by deciding what the theme of the next patrol meeting will be and assign at least 2 scouts to help plan the meeting by starting to fill out the following document:
Look at the bottom of this page for some other good planning ideas on what you can do for your patrol meeting.
Remember…the patrol meeting responsibility and success is based on your patrol, no one else!
