Troop 834
Calling all 6th to 8th grade boys to join our troop for Outdoor Activities Day on November 13 from 12 to 3pm. FREE EVENT and we invite all boys to join us as we have fun with these activities:
A quick shout out and thanks to some of our scouts for their awesome afternoon of activities and help while recruiting at the 2021 Octoberfest located at Scott Park on Saturday, October 2, 2021. Activities included: throwing darts at the balloon board, a water bottle flip, milk jug bowling, and of course cornhole! Many scouts and parents helped throughout the day to make this an exciting and fun event for everyone. Nice job Troop 834!
Do a good turn daily and Support your community! These are 2 of the hallmarks of Scouting values instilled through Boy Scouting. As a good example of this it’s nice to see PJ and Dom showcase these traits as they took the lead at their school recently when the school had a 9/11 remembrance ceremony. The 2 scouts were asked to assist a local veteran in unfolding and raising the American Flag in front of the whole school.
Our hats off to PJ and Dom for a great job representing the true qualities scouting!
This weekend we will be doing a Bike Trip to Cuyahoga Valley Railroad and Train Ride. We will bike out and then take a train back! Then camping at Seven Ranges Scout Reservation.
Troop 834 conducted an Eagle Scout Court of Honor on June 6, 2021 for Brendan Nangle. Brendan became the troop’s 149th Eagle Scout after completing all requirements for Eagle scout by his December birthday. Brendan began his scouting career in 2009 and completed his Arrow of Light in 2014 when he crossed over from Pack 262 into Troop 834. To complete requirements for his Eagle Scout, his service project was to build new benches for the South Park Children’s theater where has performed in the past.
Summer camp will be in July again this year. All scouts in the troop are encouraged to attend this week-long summer camping. This year we are heading to Muskingum Valley Scout Reservation which is about 2 hours west of Pittsburgh.

Even though we are all in this quarantine that doesn’t mean that we have to stop scouting. Now is when we should more than ever since we all have time. During this whole thing why not work on merit badges, or work on rank requirements. You cam print out at home a merit badge worksheet and fill it out and then bring it to the next scout meeting and find a parent who is an instructor in that merit badge and you can work with them to get it. If you need help, reach out. Reach out to an older scout who has the merit badge. See if there is anything they could help you with. Here is a link where you can find the requirements for every merit badge. Let’s see how many merit badges you can get done!
These are tough times right now but scouting continues on. Throughout quarantine we started off having our meetings virtually over Zoom video conference and that was working nicely. Recently we ha e been fortunate enough to be able to go back to in person meetings. They have been small meetings at local parks and precautions have been taken during meetings to ensure the safety of all our scouts. Scouting stops for nothing and you can still be a scout even throughout this whole ordeal.
Troop 834 has been known to do many activities in order to further expand the knowledge of our scouts. In tonight’s meeting, we did a team building activity that was fun for the whole troop. The activity for the meeting was a craft that Keegan Kraeuter, our senior patrol leader, had prepared. The troop created pine cone bird-feeders by dipping pine cones in peanut butter and then covering them in bird seed. The idea behind the project was to do something that would not only be fun, but it would also be a good alternative to the plastic bird feeders that are sold in stores. The activity proved to be exciting and a good way to help our scouts work together to create something new.
